in much the same manner the oort cloud is 50,000 au radius, the 'great pacific garbage patch' is a designation of something with extremely large size and extremely low density, with some estimates of 10 kg per km^2
if there were that much debris on my lake, it would be approximately like a single 10-cup keurig coffee maker floating somewhere, and I'd be able to boat across it all day without seeing anything

to be fair, this is how it works though. every other presidency would have ended before it began, mocking a disabled reporter, bragging about walking into teenagers dressing rooms to see them naked, or any of the countless other scandals there were - but since 2016, americans are now completely fine with their president doing such things - at least if they are republican that is.
