Sure, that's the sensible solution. But what if Russia has already decided otherwise, and has already invaded Eastern Ukraine? How would the EU react?
As I said, in this scenario, which is not completely unrealistic, the EU countries would be predictably torn on whether to deploy the joint EU army or not.

I doubt Russia would invade a sovereign country that doesn't pose a realistic threat, and if it did then it would likely back off if they got something better in return. Right now the Middle East is their top priority, and if they can get the EU to remain neutral or even support their policies there, they won't mess in Europe... a conflict there is a lose-lose situation for everyone. If Russia want to erode EU-US relations, then they have to leave the EU alone and make them feel safe and detached from the idea of needing NATO. Stirring conflict in the region would just bring the EU and the US closer together, and that's the last thing Russia wants.

Nah, not really. Wait until the first war where a majority of the countries (say 60%) force a minority (say 40%) to send their sons into a war they and their national public disagree with. A joint European army would work well in times of peace, or when there's a war everyone agrees on.

But just imagine Russian troops invading eastern Ukraine - the French and Polish and many other Eastern Europeans would presumably be willing to send troops from the joint EU army. The Germans and Italians and Finnish would presumably be against it. Not the unlikeliest scenario among the realm of war scenarios, and would most likely split the EU states perfectly in half.

The entire NATO system only works because over 50% of its military power are supplied by just one country.

Then they have the audacity to call us "unreliable allies" and act like we're being belligerent when all we ask is for them to start paying their fair share of the way. Fuck the fenders of Europe.

The last time we did, the Germans started a war that killed 50 million people, and French cowardice led to the wholesale slaughter of French Jews.
