Colorado doesn't count. Everyone in Colorado is stoned all the time.

Try that in one of the meth states, and you'll have a bunch of dead paramedics and mental health folk.

paramedics dont generally escalate druggies, cops do. no one is scared when they see an ambulance come, some get scared around cops.

Paramedics, nurses, doctors, and social workers all get attacked and sustain injuries while on the job working with violently mentally ill people. It's a major problem already in hospitals, nursing homes and rehab centers

from 1 study I pulled from where live in canadia

"In 2014, in a study of Canadian paramedics, 75% of paramedics reported experiencing violence, with 74% reporting multiple forms of violence. "

and the numbers aren't dropping over time

so do people walking down the street, my point was that police escalate tensions far more than paramedics. implying a large number of paramedics will be assaulted by druggies implies the same level of escalation, which just isn't true. ghots assertion that in the 350 cases in denver its all pot is silly too, 1 because its as if hard drugs arent used there, and 2 a low number of call are even for pot. a few edible overdoses sure, but there's plenty of hard drugs there just as in any city.

who would care about escalation unless it results in violence anyhow?

if 75% of paramedics report experiencing violence, people need to stop thinking they can wave a magic wand at this

magic wand point is valid, but the idea is to have some number more depending on location of calls handled by paramedics.

if you're in a location with a meth epidemic, not a good idea. if you're in a largely peaceful place with lower numbers of pcp/meth/etc maybe a good idea.

small tweaks are the best course, but to make small tweaks you need to understand factors like escalation, as well as rates of violence received. my point is that its not a simple 1 to 1 relationship between cops and paramedics.
