You can look at Georgia for an example. GA has a law that requires a candidate to win a majority of the cast votes (not just a plurality, but a 50% +1 majority). It's why they're going to a runoff in the Senate race, because no one got a majority. The number of registered voters has fuck all to do with it.





Well, I realize that now.
I still think it would be better to base the percentages off of registered voters, than off votes cast.




Anyway... back to the important part... it seems Laxalt is winning.... again. :/

Why would you ever do that? That doesn't give any indication whatsoever about how a specific race is going (especially when the best turnout has only ever been 80% of registered voters to begin with).

It's simpler. The higher percent, is winning, no matter how many turn out?

then you would end up in a situation where people with bad brains would say "BUT HOW DID XYZ WIN WITH ONLY 48% OF THE VOTE????? THAT'S NOT A MAJORITY!!!"

they did it that way because it's literally the only logical design

1000 votes are cast
100 are counted so far
40 for one person, 60 for the other = 40%/60% with 10% reporting

it's like grade 3 math

LOL... I understand the math. I don't understand the reasoning for doing it that way.
