The US has the same number of political leaders as the UK (one at a time), but 5 times the population. So even just from a statistical point of view, one would expect five times as many assassination attempts on US presidents than on UK leaders because there's a five times larger pool of potential maniacs, crazies or extremists to draw from.

And yet the last attempt on a UK leader was 1812, thats over 200 years. The US population surpassed the UK in 1860.
US population was roughly double UK population until the 1950's.

So how many US leaders got shot since? Not to mention MLK, Malcolm X and all the attempted shootings like Reagan.
Your question was would more gun control lead to less leaders being shot. The evidence overwhelmingly supports the answer being yes.

You could definitely be right and I am leaning towards the incompetence camp but holy moly this level of short-sightedness should not be possible for the secret service. 4 confirmed sniper teams, agents in the building of the shooter, an extension ladder placed conveniently by the side of the building (allegedly), everyone and their mother telling the fuzz that they see a guy with a gun and the best shots in the world let some limp wristed whiteboy sneak up on them?

I don't know which version is worse for American hegemony. It's like Americans started reading Trudeaus art of war
