So in reality, this is barely a crack down at all and enshrines the levels for this type of immigration at a number which is still magnitudes too high. This is not an actual pivot on policy, it's a PR stunt whose only real purpose is to generate misleading and favorable headlines for Biden.

It's obviously useless and highly disingenuous to measure Trump's performance by the economic numbers from January 2021 - at that time, the economy was in an artificial stasis because we were fighting a once-in-a-century health crisis.
