and no, donbas was not "majority russian". that's a lie. it's a region in which the largest MINORITY (around 38%) was ethnic russian - but still UKRAINIAN citizens. just like california, arizona, new mexico, and texas are still american, even though a significant minority of their populations (also > 30%) is hispanic. doesn't give mexico the justification to invade - even though it used to be mexican territory in the past, lol.

it becomes clear WHY it wasnt official rather quickly. Russia invaded to prevent them from joining NATO, and that was just with them starting to ask about joining. we never had the ability to make them an ally.

Ukraine couldn't be admitted to NATO under its own guidelines because it is a corrupt shithole, among other issues. NATO members also voted against allowing them to join. Being "official" would have been the only thing to protect against Russia, leaving them hanging just painted a huge target on their back and now the country is wrecked.
