Americans are willing to work for $2 an hour then right?
as more production and consumption has left the US workers have lost wages compared to inflation. cost of goods would raise, but not at a rate greater than the wage revenue gained domestically. especially in a highly automated environment. then take the cost of shipping out of the equation, and its not as negative of an effect as one might think.
if an american worker makes 20$/hour and a chinese worker makes 2$/hour the savings on the goods aren't 95%, they're closer to 10-30% depending on the industry. and that was pre-covid block chain issues. due to both delays and increased shipping costs its gone down in many industries that have subcomponents or entire good produced in china.
