What difference does being black or lesbian make? ^^

If this was Kyrie Irving he'd be serving the full sentence no trade whatsoever.

As most of you stated for the sake of "optics" and "delusional left-wing ideology" this works out perfect.

edit: If anyone posting in this thread was dumb enough to bring cannabis extract to Russia just know you'd be serving full-time and that this "woman" is getting preferential treatment BECAUSE she's a lesbian black woman. How some of you cant put 2 & 2 together is beyond me.

Remember in the 90's and early 2000's when being black or gay didn't matter because it doesn't matter what your sexual orientation or skin color is.

That's what people got wrong about Blade.
Wesley Snipes might have been the first black superhero, but Chadwick Boseman was the first Black superhero

Media reaction so far has been pretty negative, be it MSM or social or whatever. If liberal fawning websites can bubble over with criticisms on this kind of announcement, its not like its great optics. And who mediated the deal? MBS. Optics issues galore. Even if its not Bergdahl, its hard for anyone to argue that an arms dealer for WNBA player is a fair exchange, much less when those other americans have at least some visibility and were talked about in news leading up to this. And importantly, it shows that Biden tried to hold out against Putin and instead caved and gave him exactly what he wanted. My perspective is that any deal is better than no deal and we really aren't losing anything on optics when its just making Biden look worse when he's already deep underwater. Its still a net positive, even if its the least possible.

but to give some snapshots of the chatter after this, just scroll down some of these and read the comments

You're offering up Twitter, Reddit, and YouTube comments as representative of the media reaction to this deal? Bold move there, Cotton.

I've had ESPN on for the past hour and it's non-stop BG coverage. There's not even a lot of punditry, it's just covering the BG deal and it obviously looks good for Biden. I imagine MSM looks somewhat similar, perhaps with a more critical lens.

Americans love a story of one of us coming home from imprisonment/capture in an adversarial country. Even the Bergdahl deal took a little while in MSM to reach the super critical stage of reaction.

ok i giggled.

i think the argument will be the charges where "trumped up" no pun intended, and therefore she will be allowed to go home. unless someone has a development on this ? while you can frown at her poltical...statements, its clear she was railroaded in russia.

No doubt they were trumped up, but she violated their law on her own accord. Not a victim of entrapment or picking up charges working on the US govs behalf. The rhetoric that we bring our own home is patriotic and sits well with the American populus, but it's more of a spectrum. The weights of the subjects are very unbalanced in this case so I don't see it helping Biden optics.

I don't think it matters much whether Griner actually had the small amount of marijuana on her.

I just think a lot of people posting in this thread are NAIVE as fuck and probably live in a nice cozy suburb.

A black lesbian WNBA player who knowingly brought cannabis extract on a plane to a country that forbids it is traded for a king-pin arms dealer.

Welcome to 2022 where the most illogical decision is the right decision. yay democrackheads

you're weaving back and forth between 2 topics:

1. are the crimes of Griner and Bout equivalent enough to make the trade "fair"

2. what does releasing Bout mean in terms of risk to america

on the 1 side, no one at all has made an argument they are even close, nor that Griner is smart.

one the 2 side of things, no one yourself included, has made a solid argument that releasing Bout poses a risk in the future to America.

he's a scum bag, she's an idiot. he served decades in prison for his worse crimes, she served a few weeks in a labor camp for pot oil. releasing him doesnt post a threat, getting her back is a lukewarm optics victory that the left will drastically overvalue.

Maybe I'm being naïve, but is there an example in recent history of the US exchanging a prisoner for some infamous arms dealer(or equivalent)? Does Russia just look at this guy as an employee of their security services or what?
