There is street-fights ongoing in Mahabad since last 2 hours, between PJAK and Iranians. (surprise surprise)

Agreed Iran has huge potential.
Iran deserve better than what the Mullahs can offer.

100% the US/UK were exploiting Irans natural resources in an unfair way.

Now it is Iranian mismanagement and the ideological regime that holds them back.

We may not see an explosive regime change or coup. I do think Iranians would prefer a more secular and free society.

Fights have died down in Mahabad and PJAK has blended, only periodical clashes now. Some weapons are being actively smuggled through Erbil, with small to no quantities through Sulaymaniyah. Iranians retaliated against PDK last night and hit some sensitive targets in Erbil. PUK, went out with a statement last night about staying clear of the conflict, and refusal of being used as a transit point.

Let's make it short:

there's much discussion these days about (empty) gestures, about FIFA strictly censoring anything that could make qatar's despots upset (from "one love" armbands to belgium's away kit featuring the word "love" in tiny letters on the back), about kneeling as a universal sign against discrimination, and all that...

compared to all of those stories, what iran's national team did was significantly more brave and risky in my opinion. their fundamentalist regime will most definitely punish them in one way or another. i can't imagine their portuguese coach keeping his job after the world cup, many of the players at the very least have family in iran, and they will all face some kind of financial / professional retribution, maybe even worse. considering all that, it was a very surprising and powerful gesture imo. good on them.
