The first Trump impeachment didn't have anything to do with Russia. The special council lead by Mueller was responsible for the Russian interference investigation.

The expectation for the Mueller probe was always that it would lead to an eventual impeachment. What do you think nevertrumpers like IceMage mean when they talk about "holding Trump accountable"?
