Unions don't deserve any type of raise they already make to much to do nothing. Wage increases only on performance which has been horrendous

is this a general comment or specific to this group of employees who are earning well below the cost of living while working in the most violent industry in Ontario?

I'm going to need to see some statistics that show that the education workers of Ontario's performance is horrendous.

I'm kind of dubious about a union's ability to call a strike pretty much any time they want. That said, people's wages should at least keep up with inflation. So maybe these teachers aren't asking too much.

Also, what about workers who aren't represented by a union? They also have to contend with inflation however there is no way for them to negotiate a higher wage.

They can unionize and bargain collectively. Second part is 100% wrong, you can negotiate your salary 1-on-1 with your boss, that’s what I do and it’s the same for lots of people with professional jobs or management positions. Most employers would rather give you a raise than let you go.

I just finished a lateral move for a large raise.. old employer wouldn't play... and now they're paying OT every single day of the week to fill the void I've left, it's hilarious when they shoot themselves

Yup, bad employers often fail to progress because they won’t retain (read pay) their best assets. You don’t miss it till it’s gone …

You mentioned professional jobs, and I agree, that yes, they can negotiate a higher wage. However, not all jobs are like that. I am talking about people who work jobs like cashiers, merchandizers, servers, or just generally jobs that don't require a lot of skills. These people usually don't have a lot of bargaining power. I also doubt it's possible for them to unionize themselves. These people's pays are usually as low as their employers can get away with.
