To increase gas prices. They need money for war and social spendings. Nordstream is just one of several pipelines in Europe.
Putin could do it to blame USA too and increase tensions between USA and Germany.

Or it could be Norway, who are trying to increase prices too.

Or anybody, as a warning terrorist attack, like Somalian pirates?

Or USA, as a warning to Putin, that they arent going to let him eat Europe.

This is all just speculation, I dont know, lol.

sure, the date was fixed for a long time obviously, the contracts were signed in 2017 iirc

it does not change the timing and the circumstances

attacks on the german economy are not exactly new and that pipeline conflict in the baltic has been going on for a while

the US and poland were by far the biggest enemies of the nordstream projects, instead of getting gas through existing pipelines poland went through the trouble of building their own with denmark to get norwegian gas directly

just when that infrastructure goes "online" german pipelines to russia get blown up

which means that germany is fully dependent on US gas, gas that goes through poland (billions of transit bucks for them) or they can even sell some spare gas on a premium, if we are desperate enough

the US and poland are the only big winners here, coincidences like that dont exist

That's the reason Poland built a pipeline to Norway.
For independence from Russia.
Nord Stream was one of the means for Russia to attack and conquer eastern Europe.
Now lets talk about german actions.
First you guys refused Ukraine into NATO, and now we are expecting nukes launched in Ukraine in some days.
24th february wouldnt happen if you guys simply accepted Ukraine into NATO 15 years ago. Putin wouldnt risk attacking NATO.
Then when Poland asked for some tanks, you guys offered 1 tank per month. 3rd exporter in the world can only make 1tank per month for your friend and ally, who is at risk. Its not a real offer.
Honestly I dont know what you guys do, but it aint looking good.
You are doing some strange politics my friend, german actions kind of leave us no other way than to be friends with USA.

If you ask me it was USA response to recent Putin illegal and crime actions: mobilization and annexation part of Ukraine.
Something like a message: "see, we launched a bomb next to your pipeline, if you launch nukes on Ukraine we will launch a bomb next to your head"

Just an idea though, it could have been anybody.
