The most important thing to the left is freedom.
The difference betwen the left and the right is actual vs potential freedom.
The right wants to maximize potential freedom. They want you to be able to theoretically do things. Like, if you have the money, you can say whatever you want on whatever outlet you want. You should be theoretically able to broadcast your message in any way you see fit, even if most access to this will only be available to a small few who can actually buy the air time and manipulate the message as they see fit.
The left wants to maximize actual freedom. It doesn't matter if you could potentially buy all the speech you want, if it's only available to an incredibly small few, then those small few will dominate the message.
The right wants you to potentially be able to buy healthcare if you are productive enough, and potentially be able to buy a house, and potentially be able to live a good life. It doesn't matter if that's only realistically avaiable to an increasingly small fraction of the population, as long as the potential is there, that is sufficient.
The left wants you to actually be able to live a good life regardless of circumstance. It is important that everybody have realistic access to the things required to live a good life, even if that comes at the expense of a small portion's theoretical freedom to infinitely merge their company. Everybody should have healthcare, not just potentially be able to access healthcare.
Does that give you a good foundation as to the world I wish to create?
freedom IS potential. humanity will always have individuals who refuse to be limited in such regard. i agree there is a line that simply existing should allow you to a degree of nurture. but some who believe they are entitled to even a little, will progress to believing they are being oppressed by not having their needs met as
they define. my observation is that people have vastly different expectations and while the right tries to maintain "freedom" by maintaining the game and managing the line (of worthiness). the left like to endlessly lower that line, while arguing that changing the game will fix it. my fear is, that if the left's dream comes true and everyone is provided for, what evils will be born with such free time. the right at least recognizes that people need purpose, the left may be surprised to find out that telling people they are being provided for adequately, and to reward themselves with the "freedom" to define their own purpose, they will discover ever more demanding people.
the right rewards self-sufficiency, sometimes ignorant of those who aren't capable.
the left rewards dependency, sometimes ignoring the necessity of tangible achievement.
the middle (as it should be), should recognize that we are only as strong as our weakest link. and progress should be measured by how we narrow the line between being dependent on government, and one's capacity to provide for themselves.
