For some reason, the media is obsessing over Liz Cheney's primary. She's going to lose and we've known that for months now. What's more interesting, IMO, is Alaska's experiment with ranked choice voting.

The media loves warmongering thugs, and hates seeing a Cheney being Cantorized like the sanctimonious RINO traitor thug she is.

Alaska's "tundra primary" is a total abomination. There can easily be scenarios where the Democrat gets 40% in the first round, the independent gets 6%, Republican A gets 27%+-X and Republican B gets 27.0%-+X, and X determines if the seat is in the end won by the Democrat or the Republican.

Voters of the independent then have to strategically place their preferences. If they prefer the seat to go Democratic, the optimal choice for them might be to rank the more toxic Republican (who in reality is probably their least preferred candidate) as their first alternative, rather than the Democrat, because that puts him ahead of the more acceptable Republican and thus increases the chance that their true preferred alternative (the Democrat) emerges victorious.

This example is of course inspired by the current House race in Alaska, where Begich (mainstream Republican) would easily defeat Peltola (the Democrat) if he makes it to the top2, but if Palin (fringe Republican) finishes ahead of him, a critical mass of Begich votes might well go to Peltola, so that she stands a decent chance of defeating Palin.

Wouldn't they vote for Biden over Cheney? Biden vs. Cheney would be a DREAM for someone like me b/c I would win no matter what.

Even with Liz Cheney's loss its probably going to get Wyoming Republicans to consider closed primary laws at the state level so you can't have party swapping democrats trying to prop up RINOs. Other states have done it

The job of a representative in a representative democracy is to represent the people. Yet there goes a woman who despised her constituency, campaigned against them and everything they stood for.
Contrast her with Ilhan 'Nur Said Elmi' Omar. She barely survived her primary challenge, even after alienating mayor Frey and having the entire moderate wing aligned against her. Why? Because Omar represents her constituency faithfully. She is every bit as militant, as deranged, as sanctimonious, as vapid and vaguely anti-semitic as her average voter. She represents the people of Minneapolis and does a good job at it. She may be guilty of campaign fraud, and tax fraud, and loan fraud, and marriage fraud, and marrying her brother, and sending violent criminals to intimidate whistleblowers, and a whole litany of other unprosecuted felonies, but nobody can accuse Ilhan Omar of failing to represent the people of Minneapolis. You can accuse a representative of not acting in their voter's best interests, of failing to take the best course of action for them and their country and future- but guess what? If your district is full of retards, they're allowed to make retarded choices for themselves.

We should get rid of primaries all together and have the party appoint people.

It's been mostly psychotic people lately. You wouldn't even believe the day I had today. Kind of had it out with one of the sickest person ive ever met and he tried to command me multiple times for lack of a better word. He was the scariest combination of diagnoses, had a Glasgow smile, and that wasn't the most extreme thing he has done to himself. I'm trying to go to sleep but I'm still having to process the encounter. I'm in a weird sector of the economy. We're about to go constitutional carry here and I'm in the nut house/s

Now that hospitals are on the menu for shooter it's like wtf, why are people trying to make health care workers' lives any fucking worse. We're struggling. I got home like 2 hours ago, ate taco bell and drank some tequila and paced in my garden for 45 minutes and its almost midnight and I have probate hearings bright and early tomorrow because I'm a deputy clerk for the county and motherfuckers need probated.

My neighborhood is pretty diverse. It used to be redlined but that was way before I was alive. Blacks, whites, even high yellow here.

Heart goes out to you, my friend. I'm also working in mental health and shit fucking sucks. The struggle is immense, and once you get behind the scenes you realize (or at least, I've come to realize) that our system, as shitty as it is, is held together by glue, golden handcuffs, and 'helpers' who self-flagellate on the daily and then attempt to cope once home.

Sure doesn't sound or look Minnesotan to me.
Should be illegal for foreigners to hold political positions.
Can you say conflict of interests?
And how does this foreigner feel about the largest demographic in her district?
I will let her say it.

BTW, snopes says this is made up. Snopes' true color....
