They'll probably have enough bread tbh. No sortage of grain in Russia. but will it be offordable with the average wage... that's the question.. This is gonna be impacting a lot more citizens citizens than I'd like tbh. I'm even considering ppl in Turkey in this equation, relying on Ukrainian grain and already a devaluated Lyra.. It's a heavy economical bomb that I'm somewhat wondering what it will exactly do. But am hoping for a solution... in a more distant future than than 2 weeks ago.

Turks are killing a lot of Russians on the ground in Ukraine with those sick ass drones.

It is almost like you cannot start murdering your neighbors without consequences anymore.

I think something will happen to Putin in a few days after this blundering invasion of Ukraine.

In a few months we will be debating giving Russia humanitarian aid.

Was listening to some radio program the other morning and a guest mentioned just that. Once the initial refugees from Ukraine simmers down, Russian refugees will be next.

No reason to ever lift sanctions on the Russian Federation at this point.

You need to keep things on the table. Your brilliant plan not only removes negotiating leverage (carrot on a stick of removing sanctions) but also unnecessarily agitates and threatens Putin. You need to give him an "out" of some kind, otherwise he will continue to lash out, and that is not what we want.

Well... not what I want, anyway. Not sure how bloodthirsty you are.

if you're going to go at Russia and/or China, you have to do it right.

when trump imposed a few select tariffs on Chinese goods he did so alone, and ineffectually. a tactic that may have gotten results if he was a bit more heavy handed and there was some guarantee of decades long deadlines to remove them.

as compared to what we see versus Russia, which is a swift and broadly imposed set of harsh sanctions from the USA, most of Europe, and a slew of the world's largest corporations and financial institutions.

at the time Trump went at China i said it wasn't enough, and therefore dumb. he should have gotten Europe in on the game and he'd have stood a chance, instead they laughed at him.

agreed pretty much on everything. unfortunately, in general europe never takes threats seriously until its way too late. that and all their politicians and most of ours are firmly tied to china’s economic and state-controlled “corporate” development

and to your point about making china basically be firmly in bed with russia is risky but could work out if russia collapses. the world vs china in an economic struggle where id still bet on the world.

we always mess around until its too late

3 months ago you would have been called the next adolf hitler for proposing a higher defense budget, now the chancellor from the anti military social democrats received standing ovations for 100 billion € extra military spendings

its ridiculous what we have become, as if some quick money will make 30 years of neglect disappear

USA would be happy to spread their ideological degeneracy of "more than 2 genders" to Russia and Ukraine. Russia and Ukraine are heavily Christian and USA cannot stand that.

What does that even has to do with anything?
Russia was 100% atheist in 1984 in 1991 it was 80% super religious. Tomorrow if needed will be atheist again on cue.
Idiot backwards country unable to create or build anything stable that would prosper in the long term, always depending on heavy political repression and corruption like no other.

good. im ready for the reality of needing to be more self sufficient, as is my family. china however is not. the rural farmers that the govt officials hate are, the city dwellers aren't, and the govt isn't.

it's either economic war now or real war later. be it cyber, bullets, or both.

Unfortunately, we have to actually live in the same world as Russia and China. We don't get the luxury of closing our borders like Japan under Sakoku. We are playing a zero sum game with China, not Russia, and when we cede our sphere of influence and kick it to their waiting arms, we're orchestrating our own doom. We had decades of third way neoliberals who collaborated with China to slowly creep their influence at our expense, like a controlled fall. Then we had Trump barge in with Navarronomics saying that we can fight China on their own terms. And all the neoliberals mislabeled and accused him of wanting to just close us off and let China win on an empty board by ceding all our global stewardship. Well here we are now, with the most distilled neoliberal purist president yet, moreso than even Obama, and what do we do? Throw away the mantle of global stewardship and hand over the reins to China uncontested. All those decades of pragmatists saying how we must compromise our highminded ideals to work with less scrupulous regimes, and especially to keep the oil flowing at all costs lest the prices blow up on the middle class. This is why I say we're in a scenario that can only be explained by western incompetence and schizophrenia, not rational self-interest.

You don't win an economic war with China by ending the petrodollar and forcing global markets to embrace the relative safety and stability of the RMB. You don't win by throwing up an Iron Curtain that puts the US and EU on one side, and Russia, China, KSA, UAE, India, Mexico, Israel, Japan, etc on the other side.
