multiple viruses are known as the “common cold”
Coronaviruses prior to covid-19 were the “common cold” these included Coronavirus 229E, HKU1, NL63, OC43 and more
You aren't wrong when it comes to Coronavirus as the RNA virus group umbrella. But what I don't think you are differentiating is that its a spectrum from the Rhinovirus (Typical Common cold) to the COVID-19/SARS viruses.
Currently when the average person says Coronavirus, they typically refer to COVID-19 rather than a common cold.
It seems a bit disingenuous to simply basket them and generally refer to them as all "common cold" style viruses. Yes, their lethality may vary but Covid variants are still more deadly than a rhinovirius "Common Cold" (Both of which can still kill people)
