That's a really stupid analysis. Cali kept their schools closed partially because they had more cases. You're still using one dimensional thinking along the lines of "more people die in hospitals so outlaw hospitals".
Most schools in Cali, particularly those in deep blue counties, were kept closed in spite of low case numbers during the fall of 2020. The closures
preceded the high case load.
Then, the covid situation deteriorated badly in November nonetheless while it did not in other states which kept their schools open to a larger degree.
California's school closures did not have a measurable effect on cases, nor would school children have put a relevant extra burden on their hospitals. This is in line with empirical data from pretty much any other place in the US, Europe or the entire world. Schools are not drivers of infections among other age groups, and infected children have extremely low rates of hospitalization.
Btw, these school closures in Cali are also the major reason why the recall effort against Gov. Newsom has a realistic shot at succeeding, putting a Republican in office for 1.5 years in Biden+29 California. But I guess all those angry Cali parents, a lot of them Democrats, are just fools who fell for Republican propaganda or were too stupid to understand the science.
