Answer is extremely simple: the masks & social restricions are much more effective on FLU than COVID-19. (/e like explained above btw spread rate)
I would also bet (this one is easy) that people who catch a FLU are much more staying at home/isolating themselve than normally (or are wearing a mask, killing the FLU spread rate)

Flu didn't go anywhere people have the flu too.

It turns out things that prevent the spread of one respiratory disease mitigates the other.

The highest death rate from the flu I've seen in my lifetime is 70k americans killed by it. That is less than 10% than those killed by covid and that is a particularly bad year it's usually much less.

A disease that kill 30k people a year is different than a disease half of America pretends doesn't exist that has killed nearly a million americans in a calendar year.

The flu thing is about the biggest red herring I can imagine and an appeal to low information individuals falling into a dunning-Kruger effect.
