They can when they pass it down to their kids. If, by the time an NFL player dies, his kids and grandkids have gone to college and have houses and it was paid for with his massive earnings, then that could turn into generational wealth, but if it's squandered by him or his kids within 2 generations then it doesn't.

It's why "old money" doesn't let people in who are less than 3 generations. Wealth tends to disappear.
