No, he's way smarter than Shapiro. Ted Cruz clerked for the Chief Justice of SCOTUS. No matter how privileged you are, you also have to be brilliant to get a gig like that. Cruz is a classical booksmart nerd with zero interpersonal skills. u can tell when he speaks he's guessing which facial features people will like, not at all natural. his speaking is so forced.

lots of these types in law school as well, they have dreams of being big time trial lawyers because they want the cash but end up as researchers to big firms or in niche law.

Right. Constitutional law is definitely up his alley for that very reason. You don't need any ability to "read" the jury so your interpersonal skills don't particularly matter. He's won some pretty tough cases.
