Exactly. As I have said repeatedly in recent days, it should be up to Wyoming's primary voters to decide Cheney's political fate. And yes, I think she will have a big problem in that primary. The neocon cabal will try everything in its power to protect her, but I dont see her winning that primary if there is a challenger who can unify the pro-Trump forces.

primary is an eternity away in political time, especially now. That said things could very much change in a year and change. For instance if we have a continued shutdown throughout 2021 with no relief it will be an actual recession and while people can point fingers the buck stops with who is in charge at the time. GW Bush (a dullard on a number of things in his own right) got the blame for all the ridiculous lending policies that his predecessor passed and the legislature wrote and the banks pushed for.

They’re gonna convert so many people with “$1400 checks maybe as long as you didn’t make too much in 2019 we don’t give a fuck if you lost your job to the pandemic.”

it was supposed to be $2k checks “on day one” my friend

I dont see much shutdowns beyond spring. The better weather will make it easier to keep the spread of the virus in check with mild countermeasures like mask-wearing in crowded places or not filling stadiums and clubs to full capacity. And as more and more of America's elderly and essential workers get vaccinated, the spectre of an overwhelmed healthcare system will fade away, meaning that higher and higher infection numbers among the young and healthy can be tolerated without causing a problem. Or at least without causing damage which would be large enough to justify shutdowns...

eh they just banned a UCL game from happening in Germany because all incoming flights from England are not allowed. This isnt going away with the new strains and USA is still in the early stages of the new strains.

Supposedly we were going to ramp up vaccines but biden is using the trump admin’s playbook verbatim, just with slightly different window dressing

The better weather argument sure..combined with quasi lockdown measures will help, but then it becomes winter again

Shutdowns of the working and middle classes are useful for our government. Its when you shut them or the ruling class down that it becomes a “problem”

Interesting data. Seems to further the opinion that if Trump had handled Covid better that he likely would have won in 2020.

I don't even believe he necessarily had to handle it "better" he just simply had to not be so defiant in going against all of the CDC recommendations such as mask wearing.

he could have (and should have) just done nothing. just point and Fauci and Birx and say “they’re the experts, they are handling this and i support them”. Leave the bickering for behind closed doors.

The mask wearing was the big miss. trump 2020/maga masks would have sold out faster than $8 soy lattes at a vegan festival, and his supporters would be going around slapping anyone who refused to wear a mask (which would have been the lefties in this alternate timeline)

The situation right now is really bad, sure, but I was talking about 1. the United States, not Europe, and 2. about April and on, not the next two months.

The UCL game is not banned btw, they will switch the order of home-field advantage or settle on a neutral venue. You also have to keep in mind that the U.S. is inoculating its population much quicker than Europe, where the EU commission fucked up the procurement badly, so that we will only be able to ramp up the vaccination program in late Q2/2021. And as a last factor, you have strong resistance against too harsh restriction in large parts of the US, and red states in particular. By contrast, a lot of European governments keep being obsessed with crude, unsophisticated lockdowns while maintaining strong polling numbers. :wallbash:

the first leg in 10 is banned from happening Germany no? i guess they could have flipped the home dates but that was decided against, either way its semantics no one from the UK is allowed into Germany (except for very select circumstances) for a few weeks right now.

trust me have i have limited faith in the US pulling off inoculation correctly. all that talk about a 'change blah blah real science this time' with a new admin and they are literally using trump's admin's playbook. we've already seen multiple politicians have the vaccine (both doses) and then get the new strain of covid-19 afterwards. i think we will see a similar pattern in 2021 to 2020, with the caveat of having a government having no qualms shutting shit down for real if they feel like it.

The first leg in Leipzig is scheduled for Feb 16, and the current restriction for entry from the UK is set valid through Feb 17, so if they just switch home field between the 1st and 2nd leg (played on Mar 10), they problem would be solved. They will figure it out.

Regarding the other stuff: I think you're far too pessimistic. With the current, high volume of infections, it's not surprising that we see cases where someone got infected shortly before receiving the vaccination, leading to an outbreak of the disease shortly after the jab.

Furthermore, even if mutations lead to a certain amount of reinfections, they would nonetheless dampen the spread and thus make it much easier to contain the virus without lockdowns. Say the R-factor with masks, some social distancing and a ban on large gatherings, but otherwise life like normal, is 1.6 in winter and 1.1 in summer. If a vaccine reduces the amount of new infections by just a meager 30%, that would already lead to an R_t of 0.77 during summer. If half the population is vaccinated, you'd still arrive at 0.935, i.e. a downward trend for the infection numbers.

We'd only be in deep deep shit if a mutation would render the vaccines completely ineffective.

Never got his day in court either way, so it doesn't really matter what he thinks, does it?

He got many days in court and embarrassed himself.

He got his day in court many times. When it came to presenting evidence they gave nothing so the case was dismissed. Often the lawyers on the case knew it was so weak they wouldn't even plead fraud.

Bob stole my shovel!
Okay, why do you think that?
I saw him carrying a box into his house!
That's not evidence of anything... case dismissed
I NEVER GOT MY DAY IN COURT!

That's basically what is happening lol
