They were the party of limited government and low taxes, where experts and elitist could go to solve hard problems rationally. That is not the case now.
Also it is out of the fascist playbook to break all rules while insisting your opponent play by them, as well as be the party of law and order while being criminals as well. They also did the fascist playbook thing where they describe their opponents and completely omnipotent and also very weak, ie they arw going to completely destroy family and church, your way if life, these raging pussy homosexuals who have no guns and can't fight, etc.
There are other criteria that have been met also.
I tend to stop short of the facism stuff, i think honestly they're just proof that reasoned logical people dont really exist when given power. if u get a billion dollars no one buys a food bunker and gold bars, they buy a lambo and a yacht. the more power u get, the less reasoned u are with that power. Trump getting something like 35-40% of his party's support was simply too much in a field of 12+ people. what do the Rubio fans who hold 4% of the parties primary votes do against that monolith. essentially no inter-party coalition exists to counter Trump, and a platform unchecked is dangerous. it mimics facism, it shows many of the same signs, but facism doesnt mix with the american system of checks and balances hard coded into the govt. its oil and water.
tl;dr, i dont think trump set out to be facist, likely would have gotten there if we didnt live in a system of checks and balances, but we do. whew.
