i'm pretty sure they know and it's a point about priorities and importance. after all, this year was dominated by the virus and the response to it. the overwhelming majority of people don't give a shit about missiles, meaning this very much illustrates one of the most glaring flaws with american politics: their so called representatives are really there to serve their donors (defence industry, big pharma, fossil fuel, wall street, insurance companies...), and not the people.
