She tried to impose a 45c tax hike on gas which would have made gas taxes in Michigan the highest or second highest in the nation. This initiative was so unpopular even among Democrats that she had to quickly scrap it.

Her lockdown orders were based on an obscure wartime law from 1945 which was struck down by the state supreme court as unconstiutional. After being bitchslapped by the court, Whitmer's reaction was to defiantly insist that the lockdowns will remain in place for another 21 days, and that she'll come up with a different legal justification by then.

instead we gave out federal guide-lines because we aren't a dictatorship and allow states to decide what's better for themselves.
those deaths probably would have been quite a bit lower if we didn't use nursing homes as covid-containment facilities in a few large democratic areas. they could have used the boats "Trump" sent over to be used as covid hospitals, but those nursing homes already had beds setup i guess

imo, she should have left the state wide open and let the ungrateful masses just die.

the gas hike was nuts, but she also needs to get creative to fix infrastructure issues not many other places have. hundreds of miles of lead pipes, crumbling inner cities, etc.

if there were an (R) in office the deathtolls would have been even more nasty than they are.

Here is a Michigan male, armed and a the state capital, and he will go on to try to kidnap the governor. They allow their criminals to walk around the state grounds armed to the teeth, casing the place, or plan their crimes. What a state.

All true, but not the point I was making. My point was that Whitmer has governed as a patronizing AuthLeft posterchild after having campaigned as the pragmatic "fix the damn roads" candidate. Thor questioned my characterization of Whitmer's tenure, and that's where I had to refer to her emergency powers derived from an obscure wartime law which was struck down as unconstitutional, and how she defied her state's court order to leave these measures in place.

If a Republican had done the same things as Whitmer (impose far-reaching restrictions of daily life without input from the legislature, defy courts which rule this approach unconstitutional), him and tcock and icemage and all the other institutionalists would get worked up like crazy by this. They would consider this (attempted) appropriation of powers in the hand of the executive and the blatant disregard for the separation of powers to be a huge fucking deal and highly dangerous for the stability of American democracy. But it's a Democrat and it's about covid, so I guess all those things are suddenly okay, and we better go back to bashing degenerate rural whites.

The suicide and addiction deaths are much greater than the Covid deaths. Whitmer is murdering thousands, and these are young people in their 20s-30s not 80 year olds circling the drain.
