Yes. You are spot on about having healthcare professionals deal with some situations as opposed to cops. Would save us all a lot of time and money. Keep in mind the hardcore right wingers would say that it makes us all safer to let cops get crazy firepower, but in reality, that’s just a smoke screen to fuck over the impoverished people by evaporating tax cash on more guns for cops instead of better health care for all.

I would rather pay a few social workers 40-50k a year each than have a cop shoot an autistic kid who didn’t deserve it. Sounds a lot cheaper to not have innocent people get unjustly assaulted by the cops who can then sue the cops which will cost much more than what would have been spent on social workers. Cops resort to lethal force for the littlest things and escalate situations that could easily be* resolved by simply listening and trying to assuage fears rather than amplify them.

It’s clear you didn’t read the entirety of my posts. If we stopped spending money on tanks and excessive firepower for the cops, there would be plenty of money to be spent on said social workers.

You don't really need specialists. Just a few social workers who know how to elevate the situation as needed. I.e. when to call an ambulance and when to just try to calm them down. As opposed to, ya know, shooting them.
