I saw an meme that summed up this situation quite well. I'll summarize below:

Good Samaritan bystander turns to another person watching (who has a phone) and says "Call an Ambulance, this guy has a broken leg and is in danger"
Cell phone person then responses - "What about my leg"

People saying all lives matter are like the guy with the cell phone. We all know that "all lives matter" - not all lives are in trouble with a broken leg.

Not that hard.

I don't know why we keep going back to all lives matter. I was saying all black lives matter. The problem starts at home and getting rid of the people that protect people will just make it worse.

We were talking about police, not parents.

So not all black lives matter just the ones killed by police?

Parents protect people not police.

I didn't say you was a racist. We all know that police are important in everyday life. I think everyone knows that. So the get rid of the police is just going to make everything worse. But If we fix the situations with police combing the new and old police officers it will help with that issue. But I don't think we should stop there I believe we need to help restore trust with all communities. I am a police officer myself and I go to section 8 communities and play basketball in the streets with kids and help them out any way I can. I want to make the world a better place in general not for the Democrats or the Republicans. This is people losing their lives here everyday.

This is called the fallacy of relative privation. I.e. that just because we are talking about one problem it means we are excluding all other problems.

I think cops should earn more and there ought to be more variation on how citizens and communities are policed.

I don't wish to see the police abolished. I wish to see them supported and have the tools available to problem solve in tough situations. We have a mobile crisis program here where social workers work with police departments and respond with them when there is suspected mental health crises or in situations where kids are involved and the police are happy to have the support.

We did have some pretty bad riots due to police violence when officer roach killed timothy thomas a loooong time ago but positive developments came from it, such as a civilian committee that reviews police shootings with the chief to see how things can be improved and it seems effective in practice.

Also thank you for the work you do on behalf of the community. We will get through this.
