Reddit is a powerful weapon during a political campaign because of its ability to serve as a multiplier of opinion and a tool for community organization, as evidenced by its role in the 2016 campaign.
Now, they are selectively shutting their site down for almost everything conservative based on bogus rules full of double standards protecting liberal subreddits. This is a blatant abuse of the site's political power, and they even have the audacity to present themselves as the good guys fighting a noble fight against dastardly hate groups.

What makes it especially egregious is that Reddit was founded as a site with a particular free speech agenda. They originally went out of their way to defend the right to express unpopular opinions or grey area content.
Its only recently that they've even dropped the pretense of being free speech crusaders and now only champion themselves as "tolerating" a range of views.

Why not just use a different service then? Isn't that what users of The_Donald did before this recent banwave?

Reddit, twitter, youtube, facebook have a monopolistic slice of the social media pie. Using fragmented isolated websites with shaky infrastructures and no popular reach results in them dwindling into obscurity, because these monopolies are anti-competitive.
Why don't they just all go on PARD and use jsp's interface?

The tech giants in San Francisco control what people see on the internet and they know it, and now they're going to take off the gloves and micromanage the shit out of it in advance of the election.

It is use of the sites political power. It isn't abuse because you don't like it or it affects you negatively. Why should they host speech that by definition dehumanizes people? Why don't companies like reddit have a right to express their values by how they operate? If they have liberal values it means they believe there is space for all types of people, and they don't have to host speech that is contradictory to their values.

And political racist isn't a type of person in the same way one is a gender, sex, race, ethnicity, etc. It isn't worthy of protection.

Reddit doesn't have a monopoly on internet forums. Reich wingers have a home here, mods are very friendly to their speech.

The only thing reddit is abusing is the oversized sense of entitlement of the 20something white males who aren't used to not getting what they want. Lol. There's always stormfront and you know they live in the comments sections.

it’s akin to child bullies throwing some other kids out of the playground, the other kids find their own way to have fun and then the child bully trolls get even more mad and continue their attacks

Well isn't this just sweet karmatic justice since the people most affected by Reddit's policy have also been the people who believe businesses have the right to decline services to LGBTQ+ people?
