Absolutely wrong. Even at the whole-in-the-wall casino diner out here it is 2 dollars for black coffee and that's a shit hold diner attached to a ratty old casino. At any chain place like you've described it'll be $2.99 every time.
But, I'd like to to mention this whole splitting hairs thing is really detracting from the point.
This is true but I don't know about the comparison. For example, Apple is probably considerably more expensive than the next cheapest item of the same kind whereas Starbucks really isn't a Hell of a lot more expensive versus its competitors.
I won't dispute Starbucks marketing strategy, which is pretty much how you stated it. I opened this thread mentioning Starbucks observes the potential of a third place in society and uses it in its marketing strategies, along with the fact that historically it was marketed as a premium product and made to appear synonymous with quality and fashion.
is a bit of a hard comparison, because a home coffee pot exists. but there's no machine i can set to make an iphone for me and have it ready on a timer. compared to Tim Hortons, they are the premier coffee franchise, but still cheaper than some mom and pop coffee lounges im sure.

Coffee is also very bad for your teeth.
coffee isnt bad for your teeth, just cream and sugar. it can stain your teeth a bit, but the acidity isnt problematic. source, my dentist, who also admits this is fairly new info.
it was just hard to study for years, as coffee studies were really plagued by sugar and cream. once they controlled for black drinkers the results were much better.
