Right. Death is death. But if a person dies and you don’t hear about it, did they die?

People would rather take to the side of hiding from the virus, to avoid deaths from covid because it’s another statistic that is made known.

Out of sight, out of mind. If someone dies or their life is ruined from poverty, nobody hears about that story.

People always want to pretend like they’re all caring when in reality they just want to stay oblivious and safe in their own little bubble.

Willing to guarantee most people who want the quarantine to continue are still able to work their job and or work from home whereas most of the people who want to go back to work are the people that have no other choice.

Thank you. Exactly what I was driving towards and you said it better than I could.

fair point about personal bias due to peoples' individual situations, but if we are looking at the bigger picture and taking into account both people who can wfh and people who can't - and the result of self isolating or not - there still has to be a definitive answer/opinion for what is better for the collective.

what about some numbers? seems like one way to get a gauge on peoples' opinions.

"I would be okay with ___% of the population dying from covid-related causes (of the disease itself, overload on hospitals, etc) if it meant that we stopped self-isolation and sent everybody back to work with as much precautions as feasible."

"I would be okay with ___% of the population suffering from severe economic hardships (joblessness, homelessness, suicide) if it meant that we enforced self-isolation until scientists/experts give the okay."

Yikes. I understand you’re from Australia which would maybe be a reason why you think this. There were some tough places in America before all of this and I can’t even imagine what’s happened across the country because of the quarantine.

At what point do people stop thinking about what’s best for everyone and start worrying more about what’s best for themselves?

Just to make it clear, I’m not on either side and in the middle simply because the reality is, nobody knows what’s going to happen. We could all go back to work and be fine or we could make things a million times worse. We could wait out the virus and be completely fine with the economy or the global economy could collapse and then who knows what could happen.

The only thing I can honestly say is that if I had a family that I needed to provide for during all of this and had no means of being able to do so, I know damn well I wouldn’t be sitting around trying to wait it out. So can I understand this? Yeah, I can. Is it the safest option for society? No, but would I care?

Lets say you are concerned about suicide rates due to poverty, how many of the 3-5% of the population that dies because you deemed them not worth saving are going to have family members who become depressed?
How many people are going to see hardship anyway because you sent them back to work and they ended up with covid 19?
At the rate of spread if you continue business as normal almost 100% of the population will end up with the virus.
The virus WILL mutate off this many jumps and we will need to try and combat multiple strains at the same time, until that one in a billion freak mutation that ends up being as deadly as sars that spreads faster than the common cold.
This is why we let doctors and scientists inform us.

So accurate.

Many people don’t care about poverty or starvation in third world countries but as soon as something gets too close to home then the world has to change.

The sooner all this shit is over the better.

In my country at least literally nobody has no other choice, if you lose your job due to covid the government gives you $3,000 a month benefits, dunno how its handled in the states.

Does Kemp have a brain? He may just be high because it's 4/20. IDK. Of ALL the places you could choose to reopen, he chose the WORST ONES. These are all VERY social places he is reopening: gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, beauty shops, salons, barber shops, and body art studios? DOES HE EVEN READ? At a gym, people use equipment one after another and talk and BS--especially back in the locker room. A massage therapist? How the heck are they supposed to practice social distancing? Will they massage from a DISTANCE? What about barbers? Will they cut hair from a DISTANCE?? How about nail salons? What about bowling balls being reused between people? This is happening in FOUR days?

Good God. No wonder the rest of the world thinks the United States are a bunch of ignorant hicks. Some of these politicians should just be tossed in a jail cell. Thanks to this guy, we are probably going to see a huge rise in infections which will inevitably cause more unnecessary death. Incoming second wave.

I live about 10 minutes from the CDC, so I'm mostly surrounded by educated individuals. Apparently, Kemp isn't even as educated as a kindergartner.
