"Above Average" sales reps are required to have a high degree of expertise to sell their product/service. That includes "deep technical or empirical knowledge". This is how you convince and prove a prospective new customer that you are infact, an expert in this particular service, product, or industry. People are VERY hesitant to buy from strangers, that's why sales reps are paid they way they are. Sales isn't luck.
Do you have an experience in sales? I'm curious as to where your opinion was formed.

/e well this one was a bit rude; i will still write something: years ago i was in car with a guy who obtained a contract from some US pharma lab, we were about to start a meeting with the new client.
He started to cry (really crying, in the fucking car) and and told me that he was a bitch, that his job was a hooker job, and that it was really hard to live like that...etc... ROFL.
