Reducing sentences would be a positive first step, but it still leaves the criminalized status of drugs in place, and still allows for the incarceration of non-violent drug offenders. I'm well aware of how spineless our political class is with regard to this issue. That doesn't change my opinion that ending it outright is the right thing to do.

Getting mixed results on what most Americans want from two bad sources. Even if a slight majority is against decriminalization, politicians need to listen and vote on the will of the people.

It's harder than the outside world that's obvious. You trying to go on various tangents because you can't admit this simple reality is getting boring.

I'm curious as to why you feel people use substances or develop addictions in the first place?

You people? Lol. I love that phrase.

A plethora of reasons. From a brief respite, to the alleviating of symptoms, to hatred towards one self, lack of distress tolerance in general, or fundamentally not liking the way one interacts with the world at baseline, and most importantly drugs just feel good and have been part of our mammalian life long before we were human. Goats will grind down their teeth in psychedelic lichens and every animal has a way it likes to get fucked up. Humans are animals and based on chemistry alone we will have a relationship to drugs.

Also social factors, who is giving said drug will categorize it into drug or medication etc and that is all culturally constructed leading to more obfuscation of etiology.

Marijuana has been an illegal street drug with no medical value until now...so what in the plant changed? Hah.

Haha all these too.

Most addicts I encounter, but the time they get to me, have no purpose other than avoiding pain.

He didn't say you people. He said "why do you feel [that] people".

ngl you people need to bone up on your reading comprehension skills.

The time is past due. We should be rethinking sentencing and classification of what is considered a hard drug.

Quote (ChrisKz @ Nov 12 2019 10:36pm)
I think they should be punished, but more of a community thing. They should be given something to do with their time, rather than wasting it high.

this is use only. if they sell (as a lto of users do, actually) then they should be HEAVILY punished.

^ Punishing someone for being unproductive with their time?.... Any free human should be 100% entitled to waste their time and life so long as it doesn't impact their fellow humans. A lot of criminialized drugs just impact the user, any other impacts are created directly from the criminialization of said drug and perhaps that should be the test for qualification as illegal.

Also, for pot specifically. Legalization and regulation is leading to a better understood drug/medicine. For example, there are startups working to classify various lines of pot product genetically so consumers have a scientifically based idea of what they are getting.
