Having an excess of workers to hire does not magically create greater costs on a business. Business owners depressed low-skill wages, not immigrants.

And if you want to say that market forces drive down wages, well they also attract workers and we end up back at the start.

I've SEEN illegals at lumber yards, construction sites, etc., with signs saying: $50/day, in the 80's and 90's. That wasn't companies depressing anything.

If we think labor competition is bad now, just wait till automation takes over.

This is the natural progression of Capitalism. The jobs that could be exported to cheaper labor markets largely have been at this point. Skilled jobs in fields like tech, engineering, financials, etc, companies don't want to increase the pay to match the native supply therefore they lobby for favorable immigration laws to bring in people which are more than glad to work at 3x salary they would be making in their country. That's why you have companies like Intel being against immigration reforms. Tangent but pointing it out for proponents of immigration, who consider themselves socialist yet are for policies that hurt the workers and benefit corporations.

Offering healthcare to illegal immigrants only serves as a carrot for other immigrants to come here. This is objectively true. Kind of baffling to me why we would do this considering so many citizens/legal residents are under insured.
