and trump is right to do so, if anyone is dismantling NATO right now its berlin (among others) and not washington

i wonder, if our allies even know that we do not have the material we promised for 2019, when the german army is supposed to assume a leading role in the task force in eastern europe
aside from tanks and other vehicles even tents and winter clothing are missing ffs

The thing that I can't figure out is why Germany would be in favor of the pipeline. Don't they realize that in the future, Russia would be able to just turn off the flow, when Germany disagreed with Russia over some issue?

they can do that right now. Actually had crossed their minds in the past to pressure ukraine/Poland.. The problem was that with the current pipeline, Germany was at the receiving end of that very same pipeline. And with an united EU that would have been to much to take on, for the goal of pressuring these two counries.

The Nord 2 pipeline is going to run from Russia to Germany, no stops.

In response to Trump’s accusations that Germany was captive to Russia, Merkel — who grew up in East Germany — on Wednesday cautioned the president that she may be in a better position to judge her country’s dependence. “I’ve experienced myself a part of Germany controlled by the Soviet Union, and I’m very happy today that we are united in freedom,” Merkel said.

If I were the EU and/or German, I would be seriously worried about this.

/e It looks to me like this pipeline and Russia's control of it, will put a big fat Russia-friendly country, right smack in the middle of Europe.

/ee When we consider all the countries and what's been happening since the cold war, it looks like Russia is just slowly taking over Europe. The northern Middle East too.

as fender correctly pointed out for once, we have multiple suppliers and lets not forget that turning off the flow would also mean no money for russia
and they do need it, gas is useless without a buyer

some people would even say its good that our gas supply can no longer be interrupted by trouble in eastern europe

its not like merkel had a problem living in soviet controlled eastern germany, she had a wonderful time being a propagandist of the communist FDJ youth organisation and only a flawless socialist citizen could enjoy the education she did
that woman has no values

Well, here's a map of Russia and Europe from 1900...

/e I don't know if it's accurate, but I read somewhere that the Russians have an old saying: The first 800 years are the hardest.

oh right, it's the countries that aren't paying a retarded amounts of money to meet a ridiculous financial goal (which is a result of america waging war all over the world to feed the defence industry that owns their politicians) which is undermining NATO - not the bumbling idiot who keeps openly attacking his allies, accusing them publicly with falsehoods and lies, constantly questioning the alliance, and aggressively demanding payments in the most undiplomatic manner imaginable.

you know you've lost it when you're rooting for a foreign wannabe strong man and accuse the reasonable side of this argument of 'dismantling NATO'...

yeah its a very important part of the geopolitics that Nord Stream 2 is intentionally going around eastern europe instead of through the Ukraine. Lithuania, Poland and the Ukraine are extremely opposed.
Russia had been using its leverage over gas to pressure Ukraine throughout the Crimea crisis and before, and that is why it was a big deal that the US has been shipping LNG to the old soviet bloc to undermine Russian control
but a pipeline running through these countries to western europe also meant these countries held as much power to shut off the flow as Russia did. Russia's leverage to withhold gas to Ukraine was only as much a threat as their willingness to withhold gas to Germany. Germany of course didn't want to be on the receiving end of the spat between the old soviet countries and russia, but cutting them out of this pipeline effectively leaves them defenseless. As if Ukraine wasn't already abandoned in the Crimean war, Merkel building this pipeline is throwing them under the bus.
