Yeah, I am one of those people who actually live around it everyday.

Not one who claims to live it but probably lives more in general chat.

that is a lack of understanding of addiction and lack of understanding of addiction from the historically recent trauma and destruction of people

people nearly made extinct through violence and maliciousness that lead to survivors living in rotting cemeteries of their cultures

I was born addicted and have never drank or used but it's in me. That urge haunts me every single day as does all of the pain of where I grew up, what happened there, to them, and eventually to me it's in our blood, in our bloodlines

I have to be extremely careful with everything i do because I can get addicted to anything, you add in extreme (and I mean extreme) poverty during early development and abuse and neglect from people that had that done to them and there really is no escape mentally

To fix problems we have to better understand them and the causes and with Natives it's an especially tragic and misunderstood issue from those that have not studied or have kneejerk reactions to deny or whitewash what happened and the consequences of that treatment existing to this very day

This is pretty much how my aboriginal relatives describe it, a world apart but so similar.

Just step away and maybe come back tomorrow. You're just making yourself look silly.

Perhaps you should do some reading on what put them there and the HISTORY of the situation.

Right now you just sound like a Republican saying that blacks were better off as slaves because they had jobs.

Do I? I think I quite clearly said -

Well more land isn't gonna help them is it? They need proper social programs etc. They kinda fucked themselves with the whole sovereignty over reservations thing. Another unequal treaty considering federal law still rules there and the Assimilative Crimes Act makes it so that even state laws are essentially federal law on reservations. So basically they have to obey the USGov but get almost no assistance from them.

I'm au fait with the situation. But the trail of tears isn't doing shit to stop Indians right now. Lack of public services is.

Should we have assimilated them by force?

I'm not sure we could have done a whole lot better. They weren't exactly in a "good" situation before European contact, at least from a modern pov.

What does that even mean?

Europeans weren't in a "good" situation during that time from a modern pov.

A good start would be to stop letting white men rape native women on tribal land to this very day and get away with it

Practice what you preach. Our work does not let us send women to certain communities. It's not because there is white people living there.

Domestic violence is one of the biggest issues among the culture. Perhaps beating mommy daily in front a child growing up doesn't build a foundation of respect for women.

Oh wait you hit mommy because of the white man. Sorry I forgot you cant help it! Nunavut and NWT highest rates of domestic violence in Canada, obviously on a per capita basis.
