But what if they can't stay in their home country? What if they can't find a job or even a safe place to raise their family? What then?
This, in my opinion, raises an interesting question. Before the technological advancements that made global travel possible, what would these people have done? What do people do
here when they can't find a job or a safe place to raise their family? Should they just pack up and move to another country?
A lot of immigration is fueled by the idea that they would be better off in our country than they were in their old country. In some cases that is true but most often I think it only falls under the old adage that 'the grass is greener on the other side of the fence'. There is difficulty anywhere a person goes, and if they enter this country with the aim of making their life better but not having to change to 'assimilate' into the culture that exists here, they are almost certainly bound to fail in their efforts. While a person should retain their heritage and cultural traditions that are important to them, there are certain things that I agree are important to learn in order to be somewhat successful in this society (such as learning the predominant language), otherwise they will only be riding on the back of charity so to speak.
