I Moved to Silicon Valley in 2008. My very first impression of the Bay Area and the tech work force and venture capitalists in Palo Alto was that they are all soulless drones who care about nothing but money, wine and social hierarchy. Oh and they are all closet demon worshipers who like to have orgies with high school girls on molly. Seriously, we needed to drop a nuke on the Bay Area back in like 2012 to save our civilization but I’m afraid it’s too late now. These are the very people responsible for rigging elections, covid, and now ai taking over everything.

I would also like to add the big tech companies are also behind that fake civil rights movement we had during Covid over George Floyd, which of course is a bunch of BS. That man was committing a crime and he was a junkie who happened to die of a drug overdose not being strangled by a cop. They are also behind the fake narrative and the push that all western countries are inherently racist, which is of course another lie. They do this because they want to destabilize our civilization and our workforce, now why would they do that? Someone would say it’s because the more they make people unable and unfit to hold jobs the more they can push for automation, AI and robots.

It is a discussion of 50 years out. Its a discussion centered around kids and grandkids future, I myself predict a sort of UBI eventually where the wealth gap grows even larger and although work-time may be reduced, quality of life will decrease since no one seems interested on putting guardrails on anything, your UBI will cover basics if that and you will be taken to the cleaners at every opportunity. Gut consumer protection even further and start to really expolit basic necessities, power, water, food, etc.

I dont see an issue with it, what are the negatives?

It's not feasible for people like myself who are partially disabled. I still work, I'm not going to be one of those people for as long as I can, but I cannot do trades anymore like I used to befoee getting hurt.

What type of injury do you have, if its ok to ask?

I was in a car accident (not my fault) that messed up my back. I went from doing physical labor with no real problems, to having to learn new skills and try to navigate life with serious limitations.

But I refuse to be on disability or take advantage of the system until I physically cannot walk, which does happen sometimes during flare ups.

Do you wear anything in your daily life to assist with this like a lumbar belt or clavicle brace?

Not long ago there was the tongue and cheek saying of learn to code as many struggled on main street America. We've come full circle today with coding going from 100% human to probably 90+% generated by AI very soon. The updated 'learn to code' is 'become an entrepreneur'.

I work in finance and this isn't limited to tech. AI is being pushed so fucking hard that you can't go a day without hearing about it. I have an inside joke on my team that when a managing director mentions it i need to respond and tell him i already have a Lord and Savior, because fuck me it's being treated as the end all be all. Pretty much everyone in the org has anxiety about it. Mgt wont say it out loud but we all know that the perceived productivity gains of today are the headcount reductions shortly thereafter. We have one guy resigning in two weeks, going to a different bank and we already know that his req wont be opened again, similarly to last time someone quit, they just tell us to leverage AI for the remaining team to do more with less. In reality the AI is incrementally beneficial, sure makes some things easier to do but you still need to audit it a ton and check for DQ/hallucinations and so on.

It's the reason why Nasdaq & SP500 is going parabolic, labor is a huge cost. CEOs and board are rewarded for pushing AI, so naturally the whole herd does it. We can find ourself in a scenario where all these AI companies crash but that doesn't mean humans are coming back and you will see huge headcount reversal.

I was skeptical of AI replacing jobs - still am to some extent - but as far as coding, as a software engineer I no longer write any code. Claude writes it all. I'm basically in a discussion with Claude all day on what to create, how to modify it, etc. The quality of the code and the ability of Claude to understand what I need built and to do it well has increased substantially in the last year.

That said, it's pretty difficult to automate things which require some critical thinking. My company would love to automate as much work as possible, and we've done some of that, but more of my work the past year has been to make people more efficient and productive.

The one thing that has always irritated the hell out of me is fake hiring ads and information.

Some company says they pay 100,000+ a year for said position and its either a salary exempt structure or wage with massive overtime. In both instances you're working 80+ hours a week which objectively means you make the same per hour as other 40 hour a week wage slaves. The only difference is you are given the opportunity to absolutely burn yourself out every week to make more money. The oilfields to the north of me are a really good example of this.

Some fuckin false ass lying information. At least some places have the courtesy to give you average hours worked per week.

Yeah...
Some of these interviews, between shit like this, and 2026 tech keynotes is starting to sound Hella dystopian.

These guys aren't even being shy about it anymore.
They are now straight up saying they are selling ai to other companies on the premise that ai provides fast results while human labor takes years to obtain and train.
Is your job safe should be a question you ask yourself.

"Buy our products so you don't have to hire people"

We already knew that 100s of thousands to millions of workers are having career options lost or changed by ai.
We already saw this with advances in personal computing decades ago. Many people never made it back to a good economic standing.
Legitimately curious if world governments will take the next step forward to protect their citizens' livelihoods.
A person shouldn't have to compete against a machine to put food on the table. They didn't see it last time. Will they see it this time?

The current US government as usual can be expected to do nothing because the fortune 100 suite owns them.

The ai bubble can't pop fast enough.

I don't think there is any problem with AI advancement itself, the real problem is peoples ability to adapt to it.
Some things AI is pushing have some real limitations. For both the AI and for humans.

AI is also very expensive. It uses gold, electricity, data and it goes out of date very quickly.
These expenses will be what causes the AI bubble to hit a point where it can't go any further for the average citizen. It will get so expensive that it will be counter-productive to use it.

You will know when AI has reached these limits because blackouts will start to happen.
Can you imagine a blackout for two weeks? If you thought a lockdown for 2 weeks was bad imagine people doing that with no power on....sheesh.

We already have blackouts in my part of MN. Maybe a dozen short ones a year, and a few longer ones. But Data Centers more important

the negatives would be people just being slaves with almost zero ability for any upward movements. you get a stipend of food, you live in a 1 bedroom apartment, your only "vacations" are virtual. you are born, live, and die in a 1 bedroom apartment where you sit in front of a screen all day and almost never leave your house.
