However, if the parents (or legal guardian) knew that the kid had mental health problems, suicidal ideation, violent outbursts or outright verbalized his desire to harm others AND allowed him to access a firearm then I could understand some type of negligence charges. I don't really see how a murder charge for the father makes sense if he had no knowledge of the kid's intentions.

Once again, this will be co-opted by some to justify their desire to ban firearms from the public instead of trying to address why so many kids feel that their only way out is to go out with a "bang".
