I agree that individual moral standards and government systems do keep society in order but it's the idea of religion that keeps people righteous.

If a kid is caught stealing, it is more important to tell him stealing is bad because Jesus said so as opposed to just saying stealing is bad.

Everybody: Actually, did you do a decades long multi billion dollar cover up of those rapes? So aren't there like, a massive amount not included in those numbers?

You can easily explain to a child why stealing is bad and never even mention Jesus... Let him feel the repercussions of having someone steal from him and he will get it. No religion needed.


The issue with religion is what I call the blue team vs. red team bullshit. Despite all religions teaching that you ought to be a good neighbour, that murder is wrong blah blah blah, more people have died in the name of
religion than anything else. Until people can look past the red team blue team bullshit, religion is somewhat of a lost cause imo.

like Caswallen said, the abuse of trust is just so disgusting. something ive pondered about, is that cops, or any authoritarian figure, should have sentences which are more severe than the general population.
the state trusted you with its authority and you were supposed to be a model citizen. therefore, your sentence ought to be worse. i hate hearing about shit cops that simply lose their job because of their poor conduct.

im not saying priest = cop, but its the abuse of trust/power that gets under my skin. like, you (the priest) were supposed to do/be good.... an example for others.

Yes and maybe God will teach him that lesson. There are bad faith actors is every facet of life and people sometimes get fooled into thinking what they are doing is for the greater good. For me personally its above my pay grade to speculate on those matters and I leave that up to a higher power. Who knows maybe what we conceive as good and evil is actually two sides of the same page.

i dont even know how to respond to that. lets just say God is awfully absent these days...
