I would venture to assume that "moderate Republicans", who support sending endless billions to some shithole (against the will of the majority of Americans if that matters) as their own country is being invaded by endless waves of illegal aliens, are the clownshow.

If USA has any hope to save itself, the GOP establishment as it is today - will fight their own supporters to the death to prevent their chance to even reach that glimmer of an attempt at salvation.

Also yes, senators can take classified documents. I didn't answer initially because I genuinely thought you were being stupid on purpose. Senators often get significant security clearances.

Between 2013 and 2020, Biden was a private citizen. What was the legal basis for him to be in possession of classified documents during this timeframe?

Update your time frame.

Biden didn't intentionally keep documents (Trump did) and when requested he returned them (Trump didnt) and Trump lied on sworn statements to the government that he had returned all the documents despite knowing he didn't.

Both were treated with kid gloves until Trump actively obstructed.

This is such an obvious open and shut case that anybody defending trump can be immediately written off as a hack with zero further evidence needed

They can bypass the gaetz group blockade, so they are king/speaker makers. They may chose one who is deliberately stupid and/or moderated, no idea how it exactly works in their lobbies.
I doubt republicans accept a democratic speaker, it would be a political suicide/disavowal, right ?
After that Gaetz group is also a king/speaker maker after all and could propose its own "moderate" candidate. Gaetz getting some kind of very selfish political gain.

I don't dispute that Biden and Trump handled the request to return their respective documents differently. What I dispute is this notion that Biden didn't commit a crime, just because he returned the classified documents which were in his possession without legal basis.

Biden did technically commit a crime. But the fbi has never enforced it as long as the documents are returned when identified.

Hunter Biden has nothing to do here, or maybe you want to add whole trump family...
