don't make the same dumb mistake as ghot, trying to downplay a recent trend, which is clearly
caused by human activity, by comparing it to the many
natural stages earth has gone through during its entire existence - many of which would have made human life as we know it today impossible, with ice covering the planet, or an outright toxic atmosphere early on...
it's like downplaying the smog engulfed cities of the seventies by saying "billions of years ago, the air was unbreathable everywhere, so we might as well not do anything about pollution" - something i'm sure many heavy industry executives, opposing emission regulations, did back then.
that's a highly dishonest and anti-intellectual approach though. this is about human impact and what we could do to at least slow the trend.
