Those events never spark civil wars. Civil wars happen with entrenched powers want them to.

In the American Civil War it was the southern slave owning planter class and the northern industrialists, for example. Both were deeply entrenched political powers that had the ability to rally the state's military to their defense.

I wasn't restricting myself to the Americas when I said civil wars. This is true no matter where you go.

The civil war was unambiguously about slavery. Literally all of the confederate leaders wrote about it at the time, as did the generals on the field and the soldiers on the ground. It is literally enshrined in the states reasons for leaving the union.

If you had to assign proportion to the reasons to the American civil war, minimum 80% of the reason was the preservation and expansion of slavery.
