They really aren't. CNN with full TDS is probably where Fox was a decade ago. Like I said, I grew up on Fox and they've gotten SIGNIFICANTLY worse. There's a reason why they hemorrhaged so much talent over the past few years.

Who cares about a few pundits lol. They are consistently rated number 1 for viewership, that’s what matters in this industry.

Half of it probably has to do with the fact it’s really one of the only conservative leaning big platforms while the other side has msnbc, cnn, etc so viewership is more spread out.

They are biased against him. But it's mostly because reality is biased against Trump.

Being critical of someone is not the same as being biased against him. CNN gives Trump crap when he deserves it... and yes, he deserves a lot of it. But they also give him crap when he doesnt deserve it, they actively downplay his achievements, actively emphasize the topics of the day which are harmful to him, deemphasize the stories that could help him, etc.

If he wins re-election, it won't be because voters affirmed him.

Agreed.

It'll be because they didn't pay attention during his presidency.

Big disagree. Your own bias is showing here. If Trump really wins reelection, it wont be because "voters were too stupid/low information", it will be because voters rejected the riots/looting/arson/violence and how the Democrats condoned this carnage.

Prioritizing riots over a pandemic is low information And stupid though...

Your original claim was that they have similar or equal bias. What does that have to do with ratings? Obviously Fox gets amazing ratings because they are incredible at their craft. They are EASILY the most entertaining of the mainstream media outlets.

First, the pandemic is not the sole responsibility of Trump, a lot of the damage the pandemic has done (mass unemployment, hundreds of thousands of infected) occurred all around the world and was inevitable.

Second, the pandemic is not as threatening for most people as a full blown civil war along racial lines. It is not even as threatening as a radical movement that burns entire streets down, calls for the police to be abolished, reparations, tries to normalize looting, and so on.
Such a radical movement might not be very dangerous as long as it remains fringe, but when it gains mainstream traction, support from one of the major parties, lots of the major news outlets, cultural institutions etc., then people will rightfully consider it a threat.

That it has happened to this extent is Trump's fault. We're one of the hardest hit countries in the world, on par with other countries that just ignored it like Brazil. Trump certainly gets a significant portion of the blame for covid since he made all the wrong moves and actively ignored his experts.

Additionally, literally everything you said can also happen from a pandemic, and it's pretty dishonest for you to compare a pandemic, that is currently happening, to a racial civil war, that is not anywhere close to happening. Seems you're minimizing inconvenient things and over blowing everything that isn't.

Your original claim was that Fox is worse than CNN, what does some pundits leaving have to do with that, is that some inderect measure of them being worse? Is your measure of pundits leaving more valid than viewership if so how? Bias is extremely difficult to quantify, what units are you using that Fox is worse than CNN or is it just you remember how it was a long time ago and how it is now?

It's possible to tackle and talk about both, like we do here all day everyday.

It is indeed difficult to quantify. Not everyone will agree on the metrics necessary for quantification. There are multiple bias analyzers out there that will corroborate my claim that Fox is more biased than CNN and you can analyze that at your own leisure. I mentioned the pundits/reporters because that's my personal view as well. As someone who has a lot experience dealing with Fox, I'm just sharing my experience. You also have the aspect that people who get their news from channels like Fox are significantly less informed than others. While that doesn't prove a causal effect, it should definitely raise some suspicion.

I mentioned that I think holistic truth is what every media outlet should strive for in theory. Profit motives will obviously distort that mission and that's not really good for the population IMO. But hey, we're a democracy so why not give the people what they want? This is simply an issue of interest and if people are more interested in circle jerking and hate porn as opposed to the actual truth then that's just who we are as a society. Every outlet, including the most reputable ones, will have their issues. As you said, it's a spectrum and all we can really do is call the shots as we see them.

This was the specific part of his post I was responding to.

If people are prioritizing the riots and looting over how a pandemic is handled when casting their vote that is itself a low information / stupid thing to do.

The rational voter will weigh the difference in damage between Biden taking over the covid response in January, and Trump continuing to be in charge of it, with the damage that might come from those riots if they continue to be allowed to fester. A federal government that is on the side of the looters and arsonists is something that would potentially inflict a huge amount of damage. Abolishing the police, or forcing crippling budget cuts on them, can have a very severe effect on the safety and well-being of all Americans. The media continuing to fan the flames can make the situation much worse.

Will the swing voter in the suburbs of the Twin Cities or Milwaukee be more concerned about a small difference in the quality of the federal part of the overall government response to a disease with an infection fatality rate of 0.5% that might well be under control by Q2/21; or about the very real mayhem and breakdown of public order that's occurring a few miles away form their homes?
