You could have the economy open but people stand/sit 2m apart and everyone wears face masks, and enforce stricter social distancing than that among the elderly or people with pre-existing health conditions. It's not black or white really.

Seems you forgot a lot of things: Events of 100+ people, workers in open space, subway, etc...
Whatever... You first need to stop the progression with a strong lockdown, especially when people are not used to wear masks and stuff.

There's 1 more month of lockdown

I think this is the best case scenario.

I didn't forget anything actually.

Mass gatherings of hundreds of people would be banned if people can't keep a safe distance, that should be obvious already.

By asking people to work from home when they can, you reduce the amount of people on public transport straight away. Then enforce a max number of people per subway cart or bus.

If I can think of these viable solutions off the top of my head, I'm sure world leaders and their teams of experts can do the same and come up with a way to ease lockdown restrictions without a massive second wave of infections.

The mathematics of a virus within a population are impossible to contain. It WILL SPREAD.

Just look at the laboratories that use them. The laboratories claim to have a level of safety but the labs are manned by imperfect humans. People quit with high turnover, have improper training, make mistakes. Average citizens have far less ability to manage the spread.

The virus will become endemic unless an outright cure is found. Human behavior is too random. As it stands now, there will be a second wave later this year and it will be DEVASTATING. You'll have two options at that point, shut down the economy (kill everyone) or let it run its course.

The usa is doing objectively bad compared to some countries. Sk and their ilk. We could have done better and flattened the curve quicker. And we didn't.

I do agree that the usa may have been filled with too many idiots to make the sk approach work tho. Gives me a real sense of patriotism....

SK approach wouldnt work here. concept of communal responsibility is minimal at best here.

Also i’d wager that per capita USA has one of the most unhealthy, unclean, poor hygienic practicing populations of the developed world.

I'd hope that if trump called in the national guard his followers wouldn't start a war. But in a country of fat sick smelly idiots its hard to say.

You said "open economy" while isolating eldery/weak, using masks, which is the sloppy slogan our spanish pard resident used before his country get massacred by the virus.

World leaders are pushing it to restart activity in the most optimal way, and it means some people will die because of this, already.

Thanks God: They can hardly hide behind anonymity to claim and decide to push it even more further, or to invent magic solutions.

Pretty much. However, this one has the potential to kill millions through the outright hindrance of the economic machinery that fuels all things. 9/11 was much smaller in scale.

This one is brainwashing millions into believing that stopping the economy is a good idea. Now governors are talking about extending the distancing measures into mid-May. When will it end?

When we have the ability to identify people for antibodies on a mass scale most likely. I think it will be very difficult for urban areas to open up but less densely populated should be fine. I think it will be extremely difficult for restaurants as well.
