Seems at least there's an end of the tunnel with Italy & Spain numbers going seriously down, thus it's the same problem for some countries in EU: they are not reporting external (of hospitals) deaths. Spain especially, but also UK, and some others.

you are under the illusion there is an option.. Unchecked there would be 20 million infected.. and dying people from streets to hospitals.. That will shut your economy down whether you want it to or not.

The mathematics of a virus within a population are impossible to contain. It WILL SPREAD.

Just look at the laboratories that use them. The laboratories claim to have a level of safety but the labs are manned by imperfect humans. People quit with high turnover, have improper training, make mistakes. Average citizens have far less ability to manage the spread.

The virus will become endemic unless an outright cure is found. Human behavior is too random. As it stands now, there will be a second wave later this year and it will be DEVASTATING. You'll have two options at that point, shut down the economy (kill everyone) or let it run its course.

You could have the economy open but people stand/sit 2m apart and everyone wears face masks, and enforce stricter social distancing than that among the elderly or people with pre-existing health conditions. It's not black or white really.

US is clearly not smart enough to do that.
