These ad hominem attacks against Biden by the Trump campaign didnt stick, and for good reason. The Trump campaign should have focused on the policy differences all along.

Biden's still a bad candidate who got incredibly lucky that the coronavirus prompted Trump to more or less self-destruct.

The guy had already self destructed well before the virus. His version of diplomacy is atrocious and his forms of communication perpetuate an underlying growing sickness that's underpinning politics.

Trump focusing on policy differences is also a disaster though.

Biden isn't a bad candidate. He's a very medium candidate. If there's one thing 2016 has shown us, it's what a real bad candidate is.

Back in February and early March, Trump was the favorite to win reelection...

The Biden from 2008 or 2012 was a very medium candidate. But it's 2020, nowadays, Biden is nothing but a sad shell of his former self. Like I said: Trump is not being beaten by Biden, he's beating himself.

that sword cuts two ways tho when Trump is on national TV saying he "wishes the best" for Maxwell and blatantly denying statistics by basically saying "if you're not just reporting the stats that make the US look good you're reporting wrong" while also lying about cases dropping in Florida. its odd to see two candidates basically running against themselves while also leaning so heavily on precanned rhetoric.

That's exactly what I mean when I say that Trump is self-destructing. He would be in trouble, but still with a decent chance at reelection, if he had merely handled the pandemic "slightly below average" instead of "god awful, total trainwreck". Had he gotten at least the absolute minimum right, he'd maybe be a 40:60 or 35:65 underdog instead of 10:90.

funny to think if he just said one time in one press conference (and he did them every day for weeks) "wear a mask, it's patriotic" it could have been so different. instead he waited too long and now it's perceived as "he's only saying that to appease democrats". even tho he's the guy who "tells it like it is, and doesnt back down".

I still dont get why his campaign didnt start selling badass-looking MAGA-masks months ago.

This way, he'd have gotten on the right side of science, saved face, covinced his mask-wary supporters of wearing one, and his supporters would have been visibly present all over the country, making his campaign look more energetic than it actually is.
And the best part: Democrats couldnt have said anything against these masks because the virus makes mask-wearing mandatory, and attacks on Trump supporters for wearing these masks would have reflected super badly on them.

Such a missed opportunity, but then again... "missed opportunity" might be a good summary of Trump's entire first term.

phrases like "on the right side of science" dont poll well with his base. the only science they trust is that biology says there are 2 sexes. so basically they stop at 3rd grade science.

yeah that was an unforced error

on the other hand if he demanded masks you’d likely have the media, some politicians, and plenty groups of “100 doctors” signing that masks dont work and it is a ‘dangerous step’ where the President is “using dictator-like rhetoric to force people to cover their body when he isnt a doctor”. Fauci would be called out for being a ‘pro-Trumper’ or whatever. then just imagine the chaos with elderly people getting attacked in public by deranged pale pasty privileged lefty thugs for wearing Trump official campaign covid-19 protective masks
