I actually meant, they're becoming more moderate over time there :)

In terms of number of seats and over all voter %, but tbf they also gained 500k votes. They were punished by a higher turnout, as well as the change to a single nationwide constituency... or, looking it through the opposite lens, they stopped benefitting from low turnouts and strong results in small constituencies (which disproportionately boosted their seat total).

They did almost as good as in 2014 despite several factors going against them:

  • higher turnout
  • the slump they went through after the 2017 presidential election
  • climate change being pushed as the dominating issue in the media
  • facing a fresh, dynamic, more unified main opponent in Macron and his LREM, as opposed to the tired old socialist and conservative forces they faced in 2014

Also note that it was Macron himself who loaded this European election with meaning, it was Macron himself who said this was the election to decide Europe's fate.
Given this pretense, Le Pen finishing ahead of Macron is a clear win for her/defeat for Macron which simply cant be discussed away.

Well, in any case, the common "right-wing hate crime against brown people is constantly on the rise"-narrative falls flat, at least here in Germany.

of course it does despite the attempts to smuggle more crime into the statistics like berlin and brandenburg do for example
thankfully these idiots got exposed so people can now form their own opinion on these stats

132 crimes in three months, thats like a day and a half of migrant crime at our central station

Nice to see the numbers decreasing, but it's still quite a bit, so hopefully they will keep going down.

Here in Spain, the numbers of hate crimes (for any reason) has been pretty stable over the last few years, with around 1.2k-1.3k cases per year being the norm. Violence against homeless, the poor and handicapped have decreased, while violence based on ideological issues has worryingly increased (understandable given the political tensions in Spain over the past 4-5 years).

2018 graph:

It seems that here:

Race > Disability > Political Ideology > Sexual Orientation > Religion > Sex/Gender Realted > Poverty > Anti-Semitic hate crime
