Because climate scientists are experts on social policy? Derp.
It would be nice if our legislatures actually listened to climate scientists. Now as it is some scientists comes out on television, talks about obvious human contribution to the rapid thawing of our extreme north and south hemispheres and the disastrous consequences, and for some reason, in the name of some sort of balance, some knuckledragging idiot is brought out and given "equal time" to the expert. Or some debunked study is presented, or one of the .002342345% scientists who aren't in on the uberhoax (to the uberparanoid) comes and gets equal time or gets the last word. Or some host just "asks some questions" that really are not relevant at all.
At least people of the scientific worldview will gather together to examine the evidence and create a plan based on reasonable goals and desirable outcomes. Sometimes it seems that the Democrats don't have the spine to do anything meaningful anymore like during the days of Truman and Kennedy. And most of the time it seems like the GOP is the army of Satan, seeking to undo everything that has been done to make this a nice place to live. I mean, what aspect of American life did Reagan not completely fuck up during his tenure? During every policy class we get to 1980-1988, and concerning every aspect of social policy, be it drugs, or mental illness, or prisons, or budgeting, whatever, and the response to every societal ill greatly diminishes and the problems all greatly exacerbated and things are now a complete mess. The time period is a black hole.
