Do you seriously think that the power/wealth of the country and the integrity of the constitution rely on society not showing even one iota of solidarity or compassion for those who got into a bad situation without having made outrageously bad choices?

But politicians use sob stories like those to create shitty laws, laws which create society-wide problems like:
-dilutes the quality of the average citizen
-creates a moral hazard
-distorts the pricing mechanism of the market leading to skyrocketing prices
-creates a eugenics feedback loop that makes generation upon generation of sicker, unhealthy people

However, you need an IQ above 120 to understand these concepts that are not immediately seen, so most people will never know, understand, or care.

And I am against these shitty laws too. The bottom line simply is that we should strive for a society in which people themselves are bearing the consequences of the choices and decisions they make, but in which there at the same time is solidarity and a safety net for those who got hit with bad luck, who got into a bad situation without having done anything wrong. These two things are not a contradiction, and I disagree with the notion that we need to go full Koch brothers in order to prevent the country from creeping socialism.
