but sue them in what court? and on what charge?

im all in on the "they will use their business acumen to crush competitors and buy anyone who is doing good", but this is a bit too much foil for me.

the truth is that republicans dont want to do the hard work, that being making a new platform. much easier to bitch about the platform they're already on.

if u dont like how something works try to make it yourself, often times you'll find out why that thing u hate is there. i see it all of the time in my business. "why is this here, we hate that", starts a cascade of explanations that they end up accepting because a can of worms isnt worth some small grievance.

The Hague for harboring “domestic terrorism” or something nonsense like that

I agree with the rest of your post. if one were inclined to build a business platform that provided a suite of services (servers, payment processing, ddos protection, advertising channels, websites etc.) that wouldnt surrender to the woke mob it’d make a killing.

but that requires a lot of work!

to be fair before the rhetoric was “build your own site” and when people did that the woke mob would sic the payment companies and webhosting companies on them. reddit losers still brigade that the_donald standalone site. so you literally need a fleet of services to protect any product you build

i dont think we agree as much.

Parler came out, and immediately had to start eliminating users. because ANY social media platform is a flame to troll moths. this is a problem inherant to the social media idea itself, and ANY control mechanisms at all will be inherently problematic. u either have 4chan/Liveleak with gore, murders, etc all shown, OR you get a problematic structure system of removing users. those are the only two options. there is no "doing it right" in a real sense. any moves u make will be problematic when we consider the scale is billions online with billions of accounts and trillions of posts.

transparency around bans isnt to protect a left wing bias, its to slow down the piles of users looking to subvert the system of checks twitter is employing.

in short, a good social media site with any level of moderation cannot exist. its a unicorn. until we have AI with the ability to do it, and that could be decades, its a pipe dream. regulation, parler, bitching, w.e. nothing will change this.

Big companies hire armies of lawyers as part of a “legal department”.

The purpose of this department is to use the legal system of the US as a tool to maximize profits and destroy enemies by whatever means possible.

Several competitors have already gone bankrupt from one reason or another.

Gab probably has an advantage because they own their own servers, but if the FBI shuts them down who cares

i just see a pile of vague excuses.

"we cant get people to switch"

"we'll get sued"

just lazy bums. that's it. its really that simple. or maybe they're just smart enough to realize that im right, and that any social media with moderation on it is inherently a huge problem, so they dont even try, and just bitch to bitch.

ya ships passing in the night.

i just wonder how many people who cry about twitter's bias have actually thought out how this stuff would work on paper. i have, and have said all along moderation, fact checking, etc would be a massive problem for twitter and only make things worse. and would have been the same if it were a right leaning bias company.

twitter has left wing bias and social media moderation is inherently a bad idea can coexist. just as if we change the words to parler and right its still true. no one wins that game.

(Reuters) - Social media platform Parler, which has gone dark after being cut off by major service providers that accused the app of failing to police violent content, may never get back online, said its CEO John Matze.

uhh you hate America, why do you “want it back”?

this is what i was alluding to: even if youre told to build your own platform there are ways for opposing parties to stop it

i dont endorse echo chambers like parler (stuff like the_donald site is fine its mostly memes anyway) but the lengths the oligarchy will go to discontinue any “wrongthink” is dangerous, imo
